The dynamic faculty and staff of the Department of Urology at the University of California, Irvine seek to advance the diagnostic and therapeutic options for treating the entire spectrum of urologic disorders by daily realizing their mission to discover, teach, and heal. As such the department is committed to better understanding the biology of urologic ailments through ongoing clinical, translational, and basic research, and to the development of novel technologies and innovative less invasive and non-invasive techniques to better cure these diseases. In addition, the transfer of this knowledge via the education of urologists and health care professionals to promote wellness of urologic patients worldwide is similarly paramount.

Central to the department’s educational mission is the residency program in urology where over a five year period, medical school graduates are transformed into knowledgeable, insightful and well-trained urologists. To this end, great effort is expended to ensure outstanding and diverse clinical exposure, superb didactic and hands-on educational opportunities with animate and cadaveric laboratory experiences, and focused training in all aspects of robotic and minimally invasive surgery. A predominantly fellowship-trained faculty and dedicated researchers are committed to this educational goal.

Clinically, it is the goal of the department to provide optimal urological care through the employment of less invasive surgery including robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic, and image guided techniques, many of which have been pioneered by the members of the department. At UC Irvine Healthcare's Center for Urological Care, the focus is on improved understanding of the biology of urologic diseases while incorporating the most skillful application of minimally invasive technologies and techniques to allow each person who seeks our care to receive a highly personalized plan of therapy assuring the effective treatment of their ailment with the least amount of discomfort and the briefest convalescence.

Administratively, the department has created a unique environment in which research and educational activities are promoted while simultaneously providing a practical nexus with clinical care. Department of Urology faculty physicians, nurses, technicians and staff provide all people who enter UC Irvine Healthcare's Center for Urological Care with unparalleled personalized service the hallmarks of which are knowledge-based integrity and kindness. Our team is ever conscious of ministering to the whole person while seeking an effective, timely treatment for their urologic challenge. The Patient Services Unit (PSU) is the first contact where an individual can make an appointment to visit with one of our urologists. The PSU utilizes a state-of-the-art messaging system to meet each person’s needs as they arise.

In sum, the Department of Urology seeks to provide all who seek our services with the absolute best in modern urological care, its residents with a superb educational and training experience, and its faculty with every opportunity to excel clinically while teaching and pursuing both basic and clinical research. Discover.Teach.HEAL.
