Who is eligible?

UC Irvine’s 2020 Summer Surgery Program is open to high school students who:

  • Are 16 years of age or older**
  • Are respectful and mature
  • Have a 3.5 GPA (unweighted) or above
  • Complete all required application and registration forms in a timely manner

**The applicant must turn 16 years old on or before the start date of their program session to be eligible to attend

Out-of-town, state, and international students are encouraged to apply. Room and board is available only during Session II.

Each student will receive confirmation once all application materials are received.

Applicants are selected for telephone interviews on a rolling basis; so the earlier the application is complete, the greater the likelihood of acceptance.

Students are evaluated based on their academic performance, diversity of experiences and background, essay quality, recommendation letter, and commitment to succeeding in the program.

Scholarship Eligibility

Scholarships applications are due by April 1st.

The Summer Surgery Program is committed to serving high school students regardless of their ability to pay. We offer two fully paid scholarships for each session to qualified applicants who have financial need or have experienced hardship. All students are encouraged to apply.
